Registration is now open for Gregg Drilling's field training expo providing 4-hours of professional development training for field staff and technicians.
The event will be outdoors and feature live and hands-on demonstrations with all types of drilling and sampling equipment. Attendees will be split into four groups a nd rotate through stations featuring different site investigation technique s and equipment.
Dr. Peter R obertson, Professor Emeritus, University of Alberta
Peter ha
s over 30 years experience as an educator, researcher, consultant and pract
itioner specializing is in the areas of in-situ testing of soils, earthquak
e design of geotechnical structures, soil liquefaction, pile design and soi
l structure interaction. Dr. Robertson is recognized as an expert both nati
onally and internationally in the areas of in situ testing and soil liquefa
ction. He was the Principal Investigator of the Canadian Liquefaction Exper
iment (CANLEX) from 1993 to 2000, a $2 million collaborative project betwee
n industry, universities, and consulting engineers to study the characteriz
ation of sand for liquefaction analysis. Dr. Robertson has been a consultan
t to various industrial clients and insurance companies in North America, A
sia and Europe for projects involving liquefaction evaluation for major str
uctures, stability of onshore and offshore structures, landslides, stabilit
y of natural slopes and tailings dams, deep foundations and use and interpr
etation of in-situ tests.
Peter has been with Gregg Drilling
for the past 16-years as a member of the CPT quality assurance and quality
control team, reviewing the CPT reports produced daily. In addition, he is
actively involved in training staff and research and development of new too
ls, equipment and software.
He spearheaded a partnership with
a software company, G
eologismiki to create CPeT-IT, a CPT interpretation software program an
d CLiq, a CPT liquefaction software program.
Dr. Richard Lato n, Associate Professor, Cal State Fullerton & President of Ear th Forensics
Dr. Laton is an expert in the field of hydrology and hydrogeology. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Geological Scie nces, Cal State University Fullerton. This is a continuation of a career th at includes years of teaching, consulting, litigation support and managemen t experience. Dr. Laton possesses extensive knowledge in the areas of hydro geology, soil and water contamination, hydrology and surface water, wetland s, coastal monitoring/geomorphology, field sampling techniques, well hydrau lics, as well as environmental remote sensing/GIS. His classes at the unive rsity encompass such topics as: water quality, environmental sampling, grou ndwater modeling, well hydraulics, oceanography, and basic geology. Dr. Lat on consults for a variety of private companies and public agencies that nee d input on the above subjects in addition to natural hazard assessment and mapping.

< p>8:00am Field Demo Rotation 1 through 4: Each group will spend approx. 1-hr at each station covering the following topics:The program is designed for both geotechnical an d environmental field personnel to become more familiar with the field equi pment, its advantages and conditions for best use. Problem solving and prop er borehole logging, sample chain of command and data collection will also be covered.
