Emerging Professionals MeetingLaboratory Testing and Soil Strength Parameter Selection for Slope Stability AnalysisPresented by: Bob Lokteff, Blackburn Consulting Selection of appropriate strength parameters is an important aspect of slope stability analysis. This requires an understanding of the different laboratory strength tests available, selection of appropriate laboratory test and test parameters, and interpretation of test results. With an understanding of these items, the geotechnical engineer can confidently use lab test data and not rely entirely on typical published values. Mr. Lokteff will draw upon his 30 years of geotechnical engineering and laboratory testing experience to provide his insights into laboratory test selection, result interpretation, and strength parameter selection for slope stability analysis that should prove helpful to project-level engineers. Biography:
Bob’s geotechnical expertise includes seepage, slope instability and settlement mitigation on flood control projects; application of pavement rehabilitation strategies, and advanced interpretation and application of laboratory tests results. He has provided geotechnical design and construction services for a wide variety of projects including levees, dams, bridges, retaining walls, pipelines, water and waste water treatment facilities, landslide repair, airports, and schools. He has also provided expert forensic engineering services for tunneling-induced settlement, building settlement caused by soft soils, building and pavement heave due to expansive soil, roadway damage caused by water pressure uplift, and levee cracking and slumping due to expansive soil.
