Synopsis:As more and more land becomes subject to urban or industrial development, good construction sites are difficult to find, subsequently ground improvement in many cases has become the most preferred option of site remediation, technically and economically. Ground improvement technologies consists of geotechnical construction means to improve and alter existing poor ground conditions, allowing embankment and structure construction projects meet their performance requirements. Ground improvement, more than ever, has been used as a Value Engineering solution in lieu of conventional piling methods and where soil replacement is not feasible or otherwise too costly. This presentation will provide a description of various ground improvement techniques along with case studies from some of AGI’s completed projects to provide perspective. About the Speakers:Patrick Magnier and Justin Martos are project managers at Advanced Geosolutions, Inc. (AGI). Their combined experience of over 10 years at AGI has been spent designing, bidding, and managing geotechnical construction projects throughout the West Coast and Canada. Patrick and Justin have been involved in large-scale design-build ground improvement projects in both the private and public sectors for clients including Amazon.com, Bay Area Regional Transit (BART), and NBC Universal Studios.
